The Welcome Project has offered an extending hand to the Fairmont community on Colerain Ave in Cincinnati, Ohio for the last 3 years and has done an amazing job by offering artists in the city, and in foreign lands, opportunities to enhance their art careers and open new doors that had been hidden. In regards to HIFI Art Express' mission to bring enlightenment to the community, Wave Pool has become a staple of enjoyment and a safe place to present Artist Sarah J Preston's art collection and shows.
The first day I met them, I felt welcome, and I was met with a bright face named Olivia, she is the director at The Welcome Project associated with the Contemporary center and she is assisting in connecting the Cincinnati community and immigrant population with resources all while inspiring the art community and making sure all is well by bridging the gap to the rest of the art world..
At the Welcome Project, there is much to do! They host drink and draws every season, host kids art camps during the summer & during the week they offer beautiful workspace filled with art from artists all over the world that brings life to the room and offers a store full of miraculous handmade products from local vendors. Did I mention free food? And so much more with their partner in art next door at the Wave Pool contemporary Art Gallery.
They even stand up for righteous causes. One of the causes that stands out and much talked about there, is the immigrants dealing with the underpaying and overbearing jobs in the fruit industry, particularly bananas. One of the workers at The Welcome project stressed on the issue that it is something that has been going on for too long. One of my goals at HIFI Art Express is to bring awareness about the issue, by showing the Art I created below, and promoting the banana exhibit at The Welcome Project, that brings enlightenment about the issue in an abstract & less abrasive way.
I usually make abstract art with paint or digital form to portray human emotions and characters. Mainly I use Lion's, but this cause urged me to use gorillas, because of their inherent desire to eat bananas. Ideally, we can boost awareness on this cause over the course of the summer through Welcome Project exhibit in the art room . Overall , the Welcome Project is a sweet place to call art a home in Cincinnati, visit during the week for a resourceful place for everything artistic!
